Sacrament in the Lutheran Church

Baptism is a sacrament in the Lutheran Church and informs our understanding of discipleship and mission in the world. Baptism is one of the two Sacraments of the church. We baptize individuals of all ages including infants.

Defines Our Call

The Baptismal covenant defines our call to live as people of God in mission for the world:
(from Evangelical Lutheran Worship)

  • Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism?
  • to live among God’s faithful people,
  • to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
  • to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
  • to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
  • and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?

Sacrament in the Lutheran Church

Communion is the second of the two Sacraments of the church. Family sessions are scheduled periodically to encourage learning and participation.

Bible Study

Tuesday Bible Study

Each week a group of people meets to spend time wrestling with questions of faith, life, and scripture.

On Tuesday mornings from 10:30am11:30am individuals meet at Sharon Lutheran to discuss the readings assigned for the coming Sunday worship. We represent a wide array of opinions and knowledge and enjoy spending time in God’s word together. Discussions are facilitated in a variety of styles and it is our goal to make room for full participation. The group works intentionally at holding each other accountable for honest and respectful discussions and disagreements. This Bible study is held year round. There is always coffee and sometimes snacks, but we are always fed.

Discipleship and Life Long Learning

Discipleship and life long learning are key for a growing faith. We ask parents and guardians to submit a registration form for Sunday School so that we might better serve the children and youth.

We do use hardcopy forms which can be returned to Sharon Lutheran Church:
120 South Market Street, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
